As this is our first time to do a podcast, we thought we should say a bit about how we got here.
We are three sisters that have experienced childhood sexual abuse (CSA) at the hands of our father. In 1989 we made the decision to bring charges against our father. He was convicted and imprisoned for seven years and released after five.
We have been involved in shining a light on the crime of childhood sexual abuse and its devastating impacts since 1990. Sadly, our experience of gaining access to supports, bringing charges against our father, and going through the judicial system, were all very negative. Tragically, almost thirty years later, supports for victims continue to be inadequate and distressing for those who make the brave decision to come forward and tell their stories.
Unfortunately, there remains a lack of political will to drive the necessary legislation and policies to make real and lasting changes in the area of sexual abuse crimes. So in 2018 we created the Count Me In! campaign, with the belief that the time is right for us to come together. We are asking everyone to get involved in calling for the much-needed legal reforms in the area of sexual abuse, so that all victims of this crime receive justice.
Over the years people have continually asked us to speak about our experiences and this led to the writing and publishing of two books. Our first book ‘Click, Click’ was published in 2011 and is a memoir of our childhood. It was also the beginning of our healing journey. In December of 2017 we self-published our second book ‘Why Go Back? 7 steps to healing from sexual abuse.’ This book outlines just how we each overcame our abuse and what we each found helpful along the road to recovery.
Sometimes you have to be In the right frame of mind to hear something that has been said to you a hundred-times before. With this in mind, we are using every possible medium in an attempt to speak, not only to victims of C.S.A., but the innumerable secondary victims and in fact anyone who will listen. Producing podcasts seem to be the next natural stage for our message.
We want to show that Childhood Sexual Abuse no longer needs to be a life sentence. And that armed with the right information victims can and do heal from this horrendous crime. We hope that by sharing our own experiences we will save other victims from unnecessary pain and suffering in their lives.
We will be podcasting every Sunday, with each podcast under twenty minutes long. Currently we are working on a series of discussions around the numerous psychological conditions and disorders that develop as a direct response to child sexual abuse/trauma.
We want the talks to be brief but informative. Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for people to hear and understand the information and in turn, encourage open discussions about this subject that so many shy away from.
We hope the podcasts are interesting and we encourage feedback and suggestions of any of the impacts you would like to hear more about.
Take Care
